The excurtive Governor of Gombe state, Ibrahim Dankwambo made his decision to contest for the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP presidential ticket known.
He made the declaration at the Government house, Gombe, on Saturday, during a meeting with party officials led by the deputy national chairman, Babayo Gamawa, elders and delegates from the six states of the North-east zone.
Dankwambo disclosed that he decided to make this decision known and to vie for the ticket under the platform of PDP after numerous groups and individuals insisted that he must contest.
He said he decided to contest to “consolidate on the gains of democracy and save the country from hunger and starvation”.
He further explains that decided to answer the call after a wide consultation with stakeholders of the Party especially from the northeast zone.
“There have been calls for me across the country to contest for the presidency in 2019, however I feel it is pertinent to seek the consent of you the delegates from my zone before I throw my hat into the contest.” Dankwambo said.
“Therefore, I have shown interest, and counting on your support, I will contest for the PDP presidentail ticket come 2019,” he added.
Mr Dankwambo recounts that the north east zone was long due for the presidency, saying its last share of leading this country was the regime of late Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
“We have been consulting and seeking the support of other zones to produce the next president of the country in 2019,” he said.
According to him, the zone needs to present a candidate with a formidable track record of achievement in both security and economy which he said the administration of Muhammadu Buhari has failed Nigeria woefully.
