The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) has uncovered another illegal orphanage home in Jiwa community of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and recovered 21 children.
It was gathered that the children, who were recovered from the illegal home, Mountain of Mercy Refuge Ark Orphanage Home, are between the ages of two and 13 years.
Speaking during the raid, the acting secretary of SDS, Hajiya Saifya Umar, frowned at the increasing number of illegal orphanage homes in parts of the territory.
Umar stated that the law establishing orphanage homes in the FCT allows only three months period for children to spend in an approved orphanage homes in the territory.
The acting secretary also called for more collaboration with other traditional rulers and area council chairmen in the FCT to discover and stop the practice of illegal orphanages in the area.
Also speaking, the Sarkin Jiwa community, Alhaji Idris Musa, who alerted the secretary on the existence of the illegal orphanage home in the area, urged the administration to take the issue of illegal orphanages seriously to avoid continuous trafficking of children in the FCT.
The children have been evacuated and relocated to the FCT Orphanage Home in Gwaku community of Gwagwalada area council.
