Adamawa assembly constitutes committee to fight coronavirus

Adamawa State House of Assembly has constituted an Ad-hoc Committee to liaise with the Committee constituted by the State Government to work out modalities for the containment of the dreaded Coronavirus in the state.

Speaker of the House Alhaji Aminu Iya Abbas made the announcement of the composition of the ad-hoc committee on the floor of the house during Tuesday’s plenary.

He said the committee is to be headed by the Chairman House Standing Committee on Health and Human Services, Alhaji Hamidu Sajoh Lekki while the Chairman House Committee on Environment Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa is to serve as vice Chairman.

Other members of the committee are; the Chairmen House Committee on security, planning commission, youth and sports, education and tertiary institutions and women affairs and social development.

While charging the committee to work towards preventing the spread of the COVID-19 in the State, Speaker Aminu Iya Abbas said they are expected to be briefing State Assembly correspondents from time to time on their activities.

Meanwhile the bill for a law to amend the Adamawa State University law of 2001 to conform and comply with the National Universities Commission guidelines with regards to retirement age of Academic and non Academic staff has scaled through first reading.

The bill which was sponsored by the Chairman House Standing Committee on education Mr Bathiya Wesley of Hong Constituency and presented on the floor of the House during Tuesday’s sitting.

Speaker Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over the plenary session directed the Chairman House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges to schedule the bill for second reading during any convenient legislative day.
