Adamawa State Commissioner of Police (CP), Olugbenga Adeyanju has vowed to ensure security of lives and properties to Nigerian communities sharing borders with Cameroon Republic.
Adeyanju made the pledge on Saturday during on the spot visit to some border communities in Toungo local government of Adamawa State.
A statement by the image maker of Adamawa State police command, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje said the CP’s action followed information indicating that some Cameroon rebels were sighted in the area.
“As part of efforts to restoring law and order in parts of Toungo and other communities where Cameroon rebels were sighted, the commissioner of police Olugbenga Adeyanju, has visited Toungo, Bosban and other communities, directed the Divisional Police officer (DPO), Operational Commanders and other security agents deployed to ensure full enforcement of the rule of law.
“He charged the officers to equally ensure optimal deployment of both human and material assets of the Intervention Squads currently on ground in the Toungo local government to safeguard lives and property of people.
“He directed the DPO/Commanders to personally coordinate the operations of the Intervention Squads in carrying out collective and holistic tasks of ensuring peace and safety in the communities.
“The Squad comprises: the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Anti kidnapping unit, Detectives/Intelligence Operatives as well as personnel of the Military, Customs, Immigration Service and other voluntary security agencies.
“The CP who thanked the people for embracing Community policing, assures that the command will do everything within its powers and means to ensure that peace is maintained in the entire areas,” he said.
Meanwhile, the CP enjoins the entire people of Toungo to cooperate with the Police, the Military and other law enforcement agencies as they carry out the full enforcement of the rule of law amongst other measures directed at ensuring their safety. He however warns troublemakers in the area to relocate and desist forthwith from acts of violence and lawlessness.
