The District Head of Jimeta, Alhaji Inuwa Baba Paris, has expressed concern over the heinous activities of a dreaded group of miscreants (Yan Shilla) in Yola, the Adamawa State capital
The Monarch said he is worried that if left unchecked, Yola may face another ‘Boko Haram like’ imbroglio in the near future.
He disclosed that the miscreants have completely annexed part of river Benue bank popularly called “Sambisa Forest” noting that the place cannot be accessed even by security operatives as the ‘Yan Shilla’ habour all sorts of dangerous weapons.
The District head who made the revelation Thursday at the state police headquarters, Yola, said unless law enforcement agencies take proactive measures, the state capital could be taken over by the miscreants (Yan Shilla) in no distant future.
In a chat with newsmen, the traditional ruler pointed out that, the outlaws are committing all sorts of evil in the forest.
“The miscreants composed of Shilla boys armed with dangerous weapons, use hard drugs and commit all sorts of atrocities,” he said.
Baba Paris disclosed that because of the strength of the miscreants, it is always difficult to enter the place even by the security operatives saying, the miscreants are a law to themselves.
“When I invaded the forest along with security agents, we discovered that they operate a clinic and deal with all sorts of intoxicants. They even use syringe to inject themselves and their victims”.
He called on the state government to cut off all the trees in the area to enable good visibility of the forest.
The Jimeta Sambisa forest is located before the Jimeta Bridge and all forms of crimes are reportedly perpetrated there.
Upon assumption of office, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has alongside security chiefs in the state visited the Sambisa forest and even ordered a total crackdown on the activities of the miscreants who became a serious menace in the state capital.
Fintiri has in a statewide broadcast, read riot act to the Shilla boys who have been terrorizing the state capital telling them to either reform or face the wrath of his administration.
The effort of the state government in conjunction with security operatives led to the arrest of many of the miscreants.
