“The suspect was apprehended by the police in Hayin-gada, Girei local government and he is member of vigilante in the same community,” Nguroje said.
The command image maker added that the family of the victim is assisting the police with useful information so that diligent prosecution can be carried out.
A relative of the victim who preferred anonymity told our reporter that the slain girl was a student of First Baptist Academy Yola, preparing to resume school on Monday as SS1 pupil.
“Jemima’s mother left her at the shop to attend a nearby event in the neighbourhood only to receive the sad news of her daughter’s death,” the source said.
Adamawa State commissioner of police, Olugbenga Adeyanju has recently warned communities to be extra vigilant while engaging those that will participate in community policung.
The commissioner of police noted that his call became expedient because some of those engaged in community policing are aiding and abetting criminal activities instead of preventing crimes in the society.
