Four new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) infections have been recorded in Adamawa, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reports Monday night just as the state’s containment committee disclosed four casualties of the infection.
According to the state’s commissioner for health, Prof. Abdullahi at an event on Monday, Adamawa has so far tested 326 people, recorded 4 deaths out of the 38 positive cases of the novel Coronavirus pandemic.
Adding up the figures, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state is now 42.
Prof. Isa made the disclosure while receiving hand sanitizers and face masks donated by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU) Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola Chapter.
He appreciated the gesture by the Staff Union and called on other academic institutes to follow their footsteps.
He said that the gesture by the Academic Staff Union MAUTECH branch couldn’t come at a better time, now that there is shortage of face masks and sanitizers all over the world.
Prof. Abdullahi applauded them for manufacturing the face mask and sanitizers which will go a long way in complimenting the effort of the containment committee in containing the pandemic.
“As at today we’ve tested 326 suspected cases of Covid-19 out of which we got 38 positive and unfortunately we lost 4 patients to this disease” he revealed.
He finally urged citizens to practice the act of hand washing, applying sanitizers and to follow all instructions and protocols given by health experts.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU) MAUTECH chapter Dr. El-Maude Jibril said they decided to contribute their own quota in containing Coronavirus pandemic by manufacturing hand sanitizers and face masks and subsequently donating to the state containment committee.
Presentation of the items took place at the State Secretariat in the presence of the Commissioner Ministry for Information and Strategy Comrade Umar Garba Pella and some of the Exco of the Union.
The Staff Union donated 210 bottles of hand sanitizers and 200 face masks to the State Covid-19 Containment Committee.
On Monday evening, the NCDC has confirmed 416 new COVID-19 cases in 19 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) as total death toll from the pandemic hits 299 in the country.
This is the second highest daily toll recorded by NCDC since the index case was confirmed on February 27, 2020.
The highest daily toll was confirmed on Saturday, 553 cases.
A total of 10,578 cases have now been confirmed in 35 states and the FCT.
