The Speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas has offered automatic employment to four persons living with disabilities in the state.
The speaker further said the assembly will appeal on all Local Government Council Chairmen across the state to replicate the gesture by employing some of them living in their local governments.
According to him, the house will pass a resolution to give back the school of persons with disabilities located in Jada Local Government to the state government to make it function effectively.
The Speaker stated this while receiving the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) led by its State Chairman, Sani Sabo, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He observed with concern the plight of the members of the association and promised to liaise with the executive arm with a view to improving their living standards and consequently employed the four members of the association.
Earlier, the Chairman said that there was a law for the establishment of the state indigenous persons with disabilities right commission, saying that the law was passed by the 6th assembly and was assented to by former Governor Bindow but could not be implemented and called on the speaker to look into the issue.
The Chairman appealed to house to pass a resolution mandating the state and local governments to allocate 10% employment opportunities, empowerment programs and political appointments to members of the association.
