The sleepy town of Namtari in Yola South Local Government of Adamawa has been thrown into disarray as a primary school teacher allegedly raped a 12-year-old pupil.
The teacher, Nathan Yusuf reportedly committed the heinous crime on Tuesday.
An eye witness said the suspect who was caught by the residents was handed over to the men of Civil Defence Corps who whisked him to their headquarters in Yola while the victim was taken to the Hope Centre located at the Yola specialist hospital for treatment, trauma and Psycho-social Management.
Commenting on the sad incident, the guardian of the victim expressed anger calling on the authorities to bring the suspect to justice.
“This is a girl we are all proud of. We have been guiding and encouraging her to acquire both western and Qur’anic knowledge. Now a teacher for that matter defiled her as a minor
“Where’s the security entrusting our children to the unknown wicked teachers?” an elder in Namtari community lamented.
Lamenting the dastardly act, the people of Namtari call on the authorities to ensure that the suspect gets appropriate punishment to serve as deterrent to others.
When contacted, the public relations officer of the corps Sulaiman Baba confirmed arresting the suspect stating that after due investigation, they will take the suspect to the court for trial.
