A faction of the ruling PDP in Adamawa State also known as the reformed People’s Democratic Party (r-PDP) has today suspended the party chairman, Barr. A.T Shehu.
Presenting the suspension letter to the state acting chairman of r-PDP, Ethan Bugi at the state secretariat of the party in Yola, the financial secretary of the party in Ganye one ward, Bamanga Umar who represented the party chairman said the action was taken over Shehu’s selfish disposition and failure to carry the people and the party along at the local government level.
“A.T Shehu has never done anything for the party and by extension to its teeming supporters since he became the chairman.
“Nobody is happy with the chairman because he is only representing himself and family not the teeming people of the area as the state chairman of the party,” he said.
Responding, the acting chairman of r-PDP, Ethan Bugi said as a party that believe in justice and fairness, they will look into the allegations and do the needful.
He noted that the purpose they floated the faction in the state is to ensure that sanity prevails in the party noting that they will do justice to all manner of people unlike what is obtained hitherto.
A letter of Shehu’s suspension signed by the trio of Ganye one ward chairman, Paul Hammawa, his secretary, Abdulrahman Hassan as well as the financial secretary Bamanga Umar made available to our reporter said that as a result of selfishness of A.T Shehu, the party has been losing election for a long time in the area.
“We the entire supporters of our great party, the PDP Ganye one ward wishes to inform you of suspension of the state chairman in the person of Barr. A.T Shehu,” the letter said.
Stating the rationale behind their action, the party officials said, “during the 2011 senatorial election when the said A.T Shehu was the state secretary of the party, the PDP won only two votes at his unit 011 Shehu Ndaka unit in Ganye one ward.
“The PDP got only 55 votes against APC’s 336 votes in 2015 presidential election.
“PDP got 8 votes while APC scored 255 votes in councillorship election of 2019 and PDP got 40 votes while APC scored 330 votes in the chairmanship election.
“With these results, it proves that he is not loved by his people and proves he is not competent to lead the party in the state.
“We want to also draw your attention to the fact that whenever we the executive members draw the attention of the state chairman on why we are always defeated, he usually tells us that he will summon a meeting but nothing is done till now,” the letter stated.
Responding A.T Shehu dismissed the purported suspension saying that he remains the state chairman of the ruling PDP.
“I don’t know any party called r-PDP and I’m not their member. To my knowledge no Nigerian party is registered as r-PDP. So I could not have been a member of a non existent party,” Shehu said.
