Bill to amend Adamawa State University law scales second reading

A bill for a law to amend the Adamawa State University Mubi law no. 10, 2001 so as to incorporate State character in the employment, admission and the general administration of the University have scaled through second reading.

The second reading of the bill followed its presentation on the floor of the House by its sponsor Abdullah Umar Yapak of Verre Constituency during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Presenting the general principle of the bill, Abdullah Yapak said the bill stipulates that 50 percent of the total number of admission and 80 percent of the employment in the institution to be reserved and be shared equally for all the 21 Local Government Councils in the State.

After various contributions on the bill by the lawmakers, Speaker Aminu Iya Abbas who presided the plenary session constituted an Ad-hoc committee headed by majority leader of the house to be assisted by chairman house committee on education alongside five others to scrutinize and report back to the house within two weeks.

Also during Tuesday’s plenary session the House have granted approval to the executive to review the 2020 to 2022 medium term expenditure framework and fiscal strategy paper.

The House approval followed a request letter forwarded by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and read on the floor of the House by the speaker Aminu Iya Abbas during Tuesday’s plenary session.

After deliberation on the request, speaker Aminu Iya Abbas put the motion for the consideration into voice vote and unanimously agreed by the House and therefore directed the clerk to communicate approval to the executive for further action.
