Adamawa Police

*Warns against indiscriminate arrests

Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) global health threat and the subsequent social restriction orders imposed by governments at all levels, to enable its containment, Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Audu A Madaki has directed all DPOs and their supervising Area commanders to ensure that all legitimate orders given in pursuant to the containment efforts by the government are strictly enforced within their areas of jurisdiction.

In a press statement No. CZ.5220/ADS/PPRO/VOL.2/24 dated March 23, 2020, and signed by the command’s image maker, the CP urged officers to observe personal safety measures.

Madaki further directs the area commanders and DPOs to ensure that cases of unnecessary arrests and detention of suspects are not condoned.

The commissioner of police maintained that detention of suspects must be reduced to the barest minimum and that only very serious cases such as terrorism, armed robbery, homicide and other non-bailable offences should warrant detention.

The CP further directs that adequate measures be put in place to screen persons to be committed into police custody.

The CP enjoins citizens to avoid social visits to police stations and other police offices and minimize official visits, except where absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile, the CP has ordered immediate publication of phone numbers of it’s Command Control Room, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and other Operational Commanders using the conventional and non- conventional media in order to facilitate alternative interaction and reporting options between the Public and the Police

Also, in compliance with the Government’s directives that all tertiary institutions in the state be shut, the CP has ordered the immediate closure of all Police Primary and Secondary Schools in the state.

Meanwhile, the police Medical Services has been directed to step up sensitization programmes across formations and barracks in the command.
