No fewer than 8 persons were confirmed dead as fourteen others sustained various degrees of injury on Wednesday in a ghastly motor accident near AFCOTT along Ngurore road in Yola South local government area of Adamawa state.
Reports, indicated that the accident was a head on collision between a passenger starlet car and a Toyota Corrola conveying a corpse from Jada to Guyuk.
An eye witness said the starlet was trying to overtake another vehicle at a dangerous bend on the axis and could not see the approaching Corrola coming from the opposite end leading to the ghastly accident adding that the fatality of the accident was worsened by the fact that the two vehicles were at top speed.
One of the victims a woman had her head cut off from the neck and this led to heavy wailing by sympathisers at the scene.
Sympathisers expressed worry that the bent has consumed so many lives in the past and they wondered when motorists will ever be cautious when driving along that route.
It will be recalled that some few years back, a bus belonging to the Adamawa chapter of the N.U.J. crashed at the spot while on its way from Ganye to Guyuk.
Wednesday is always the market days of Ngurore and traffic is usually very heavy.
Confirming the incident, the Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Adamawa State, Mohammed Hussaini said the dead and those injured were deposited at the Yola Specialist Hospital.
Hussaini said the incident was as a result of reckless driving.
He urged motorists to be cautious when driving and to obey road signs.
The commander disclosed that September months are dangerous months.
At the Specialist hospital, people were seen trying to confirm if they could recognize their dead relatives.
