*Uncover large scale financial impropriety, non adherence to due process
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Monday received the reports of the Visitation Panels constituted to unravel how Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi and State Polytechnic Yola SPY were run in the past.
In his presentation, while submitting their findings about the state university, at the council chambers, government house Yola, Chairman of the Visitation Panel, Professor Muhammad Hamisu observed that frequent changes of Vice-Chancellors in the institution has weakened the university.
Professor Hamisu added that weak administration of financial structure, lack of due process in the employment of staff and encroachment of the university land and property were part of the grey areas identified during the visitation.
The chairman revealed that the panel had recommended for constitution of substantive Vice Chancellor for ADSU and instituting an inter-agency which will include state ministries of land, Justice and the university for proper documentation of ADSU properties.
On his part, the chairman of the Visitation Panel to SPY Professor Saidu Buba Shago noted with dismay the high rate of employment through waiver and lack of promotion of staff of the institution by the management.
Professor Buba Shago also disclosed that under-utilization of laboratory facilities due to incapable hands, financial mismanagement, over staffing, abuse of due process in running the affairs of the Polytechnic were some of the findings of the panel.
According to the chairman, the panel recommended appointment of a Sole Administrator for the Polytechnic, proper demolition of structures on the southern fence of SPY and proper management and utilization of Intervention fund among other recommendations.
Responding, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri thanked the members of the Visitation Panels for a job weldone and expressed his readiness to immediately implement the recommendations of the two panels for the benefit of Adamawa.
The Governor maintained that he constituted the Panels on twelve June this year considering education as the bedrock for human development and vowed that his administration will accord the sector the desired attention for Adamawa to move forward.
Governor Umaru Fintiri pledge that under his watch he will ensure non political inteference in the removal and appointment of Vice Chancellors for ADSU and announced that very soon he will constitute a council that will put in place a process for the selection of substantive Vice Chancellor for the university.
It could be recalled that Governor Umaru Fintiri has constituted the Visitation Panels on twelve June this year for the two institutions of higher learning with a view to evolve a blue print to enable the state government get first hand information about the state of the institutions.
