“Indeed the idea of opening such a great foundation in memory of your late father is the most wonderful thing to do for a person of his caliber.
” This kind of determination certainly shows the unconditional love you have for your father. Certainly, if you cherish him as a good father, I and others cherish him as a friend, a colleague, a teacher, a statesman and as a fulfilled educationist worthy of emulation.
“He is known to be a hardworking and committed teacher for he did not only took teaching as a profession but passion to bring out the best in his students wherever and however he has the opportunity. He has never been deterred by challenges of the system or individuals in performing responsibility as a teacher and that made him a role model for many especially his students.
“Despite his popularity in the education sector, Alhaji Abubakar Iya Abbas will be remembered for his numerous tremendous effort in the development of his community as he tries to encourage his students to develop a sense of leadership and good citizenship.
” All these help to lay a solid foundation to prepare the students to meet the challenges of their time which will rapidly transform the society to greater heights.
“One of the greatest achievements he made was the memo he single handedly presented to the Irikife Panel of Boundary Adjustment during the states creation despite all odds, he succeeded in convincing his community to support his mission calling for the retention of Uba to Adamawa.
“In the memo he was able to clearly convince the panel that the section of Uba where he belongs do not belong to Borno but Adamawa,” he said.
In his speech, the speaker of Adamawa State house of Assembly, Aminu Iya Abbas pleaded with the state government to name Uba central primary school after their late father.
According to him, late Iya Abbas was the first head-boy and was also a onetime headmaster of the school.
Abubakar Iya Abbas was born in Uba town in the defunct Adamawa province. He started primary school at the age of eight and graduated in 1948.
By training and experience he became an accomplished teacher having passed through all the 3 stages of teacher training.
