Alhaji Musa Adamu, Jarma Jimeta has given cash prize to the winners of the recently concluded Jarma’s cup football tournament in Yola, Adamawa state capital.
According to Jarma Jimeta, a known philanthropist in the state, the tournament whose final match was played on Saturday at Jimeta temporary stadium is organized to engage the youths into sporting activities.
Stakeholders and high-profile dignitaries were among the spectators who filled the stadium to the brim for the tournament’s final match.
A total of 18 teams from five Local government areas; Yola North, Yola South, Girei, Fufore and Song participated in the tournament.
Jambutu United of Yola North defeated their counterparts, Ngurore United from Yola South with a lone goal to emerge winners of the Jarma’s Cup.
In addition to the Jarma’s Cup and the Golden Medals, the tournament’s winners, Jambutu United got a cash prize of N300,000.00 from Jarma himself.
The second team, Ngurore United got N200,000.00 cash prize in addition to the usual Silver Medal while Sangere-Futy football team from Girei LGA got N100,000.00 as cash prize for the third place.
Jarma also gave N50,000.00 each to Jamilu Ibrahim of Zango United and Simon Gabson of FC Tambari who are the best player and the highest goal scorer of the tournament, respectively.
N20,000 was also given to the best Goalkeeper of the tournament, Nbenga Achasa of the champions’ team, Jambutu United.
The Chief of Staff, Adamawa state Government House, Prof Maxwell Gidado while commenting on the tournament, disclosed that he was shocked and could not believe that something like this is happening in the state if he were not here himself.
“I would like to appreciate and congratulate Jarma for his achievements I see here myself, it is something to be proud of.
“This is something that can develop our youths into professional footballers and we encourage more philanthropists in the state to do same as Jarma.
“When we took over Adamawa as a government, we realized that there is no Standard stadium in the state, but I can assure you that the Governor has put forward plans to have a modern stadium constructed.” Gidado said.
Hon. Uba Bappa, Chairman of Yola North local government Council who was also at the stadium, says he could not express how happy he is, seeing a program that unites the youth this much.
“I am very happy to see this and I have nothing much to say than to pray for God to reward Jarma for his efforts and this thing he has done” Uba Bappa said.
Also commenting at the stadium, Barrister Aliyu Boya, Sarki Matasa Adamawa described the tournament as something that can bring lasting peace and unity among the youth and the society at large.
“You can see people from different communities, different religions, tribes and different ages and gender, all coming together for one program; this is not a small program.
“At any time, you find someone in the society doing good things like how Jarma is doing, you are then obliged to support and encourage that person so he could do more” Boya said.
In his remarks, the convener of the tournament, Jarma Jimeta disclosed that he was inspired by the zeal of the youths toward football.
“The youths clearly love sports especially, football. You can see them always watching the European football tournaments and foreign matches. I am inspired by this and thought of investing in the football so that we can also have our local sports” Jarma said.
