The Malam Nasiru el-Rufai’s led government in Kaduna State is planning to demolish the Kawo overhead bridge as part of its expansion of road infrastructure in the state.
Making the disclosure, the managing director, Kaduna State Roads Agency, KADRA, Engr Mohammed Magaji while addressing stakeholders at a community engagement programme over the weekend, said in its place, a bigger bridge will be constructed to accommodate the large volume of traffic that ply the bridge and reduce traffic congestion.
The managing director further said that additional roads and three roundabouts would also be constructed.
He, therefore, assured commuters and drivers that alternative roads would be provided to ease traffic congestion during the 20-month construction period.
‘‘A U-turn will be constructed at the last bus stop so that vehicles won’t need to go to the bridge site before turning.
“Lafiya road will be the alternative road for Kawo residents who want to go to town. This will reduce traffic pressure at the construction site,’’ he explained.
Mr Magaji said compensation would be given to all those whose property will be affected by the project, provided they have valid documents.
