The Plateau State Government has confirmed the death of four people following the outbreak of Lassa fever in the state.
Confirming the incident to newsmen yesterday, the Director-General Commissioner of Health, Kunden Deyin, said samples of 25 suspected classes were taken for test in which 16 were confirmed positive.
He said four of the 16 did not survive, adding that a patient from Bauchi had also tested positive.
“Most of the patients are being managed at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital while a few others are at the Jos University Teaching hospital where they are responding to treatment,” he said.
The commissioner said all primary contacts were being monitored by the surveillance team and that the outbreak was prevalent in Jos North, Jos South, Bassa, Shendam and Riyom Local Government Areas of the state.
