A university don and professor of soil science working with Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, Professor Adamu Zata has finally regained freedom.
Zata’s kidnapping on Monday marks the second time he was abducted by unknown gunmen in spate of one year.
He was abducted in October last year and released after payment of N2 million ransom was effected.
Sources say the kidnapped professor spent only two days in the hands of his abductors who released him on Wednesday night after yet another undisclosed amount was paid as ransom.
In their quest to abduct the Professor, the gunmen killed a younger brother of the professor, Dr. Sheda Zata, a veterinary doctor, aged 49 who was on a visit to the professor’s house in Girei local government of Adamawa State.
The public relations officer of the Adamawa State police command, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje confirmed the release of the professor adding that the police are on the trail of the abductors and will soon bring them to book.
