Adamawa State police command has arrested two residents of Yakore/Jambutu in Yola north local government for raping underaged girls.
A statement by the image maker of the state police command, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, said one of the suspects, a 19-year-old Aminu Abdullahi had carnal knowledge of his victim, a 9-year-old girl whom he met at Jambutu football field and took her to an uncompleted building where he raped her on 29/7/2020.
According to the statement, the other suspect, a 32-year-old Abubakar Haruna allegedly raped a 15-year-old daughter of his neighbours whom he pretended to send to an errand only to end up raping her on 30/7/2020.
Nguroje said some good Samaritans informed the police about the ugly development and without wasting time, the police swung into action and effected the arrest of the two suspects who confessed committing the crimes, noting that investigation has started in earnest.
The police spokesman said, the victims have been taken to hospital where they are undergoing medical screenings.
According to the statement, commissioner of police, Olugbenga Adeyanju commended members of the public especially those that keyed into fight against Gender Based Violence and Sexual Assaults against women and children.
He advised parents/guardians to closely monitor their wards and keep safe distance from people of questionable character.
The command further assures it’s commitment to protecting lives and properties and called on people to continue reporting to police any suspicious movement around them.
