Residents protest release of suspected kidnappers, block highway in Adamawa

Adamawa Kidnappers

Piqued by the release of suspected kidnappers, residents of Girei town, Girei local government of Adamawa State have today (Tuesday) staged protest to tell the world their frustrations.

The residents who came out en masse to show their dissatisfaction with the trend, said unless the situation is regularized, an imminent anarchy will loom in the area.

They accused the police and the judges of conniving to ensure that suspected kidnappers are left off the hook even in the face of glaring evidences.

Speaking to our correspondent, one of the protesters Bala Sani said from all intent and purporses there is glaring complicity between the police, the judges and leaders of kidnap rings to get suspects off the hook.

” There is no denying the fact that kidnapping has become a source of filthy lucre not only for the masterminds but for security and even judges.

“On a number of occasions, people caught red handed in the odious trade are usually left off the hook despite their glaring involvement in the nefarious act.

” Kidnapping now has become a thriving business which allows masterminds to rake in millions if not billions of naira.

“We believe with such massive war chest, the masterminds can buy off greedy and rapacious police and judges.

” If the situation is allowed to go unchecked, there will be total anarchy in the land as the people will never allow such parody to continue,” he said.

As a result of the blockade of the highway leading to the southern parts of the state, hundreds of commuters coming to the state capital as well as those going to the southern parts of the state have been stranded.

In a phone chat with our correspondent, the image maker of the Adamawa State police command, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje reiterated the commitment of the state police command to ensure that all acts of criminality are completely eradicated in the state.

“Several arrests of suspected kidnappers have been made along Girei axis by the police in conjunction with members of the operation farauta.

” Some of the cases have been transferred to the Force Intelligence Bureau Abuja and some are currently before Chief Magistrate Court 4 in Yola.

“Sometimes we even make arrest based on intelligence reports and we usually act swiftly to arrest the suspects.

” Kidnapping is an offence and we will not deter in arresting and prosecuting suspects.

“Let me reitrate that the police will never compromise its duty in combating crime in the state. You may wish to carry out independent investigation to get to the root of the matter,” Nguroje said.
